Hello, I’m Dr. Mari Estrada, and I’m a candidate for the Oxnard Union High School District (OUHSD) Board of Trustees for District 5, which includes Adolfo Camarillo  and Rancho Campana High Schools in Camarillo. I currently work in both the California State University and California Community College systems, where I work as a faculty member, program director, and community partner—all with a deep commitment to public education.

My husband and I are both products of the public school system, and we have raised our two children in the same tradition, with both attending local public schools, including Camarillo High School. Our shared values and experiences have deeply shaped my belief in the power of public education to uplift and transform communities.

With over a decade of experience in higher education, my focus has been on teacher preparation, professional development, and education policy, which gives me a broad understanding of the educational journey from preschool through college. While completing graduate school at UC Santa Barbara, I balanced working full-time and raising a family, so I understand the challenges our families face in striving for success. I am dedicated to lifelong learning, and I believe in fostering professional and personal growth for both students and educators.

As a candidate, I believe our district must prioritize competitive wages, robust professional development, and the tools necessary for high-quality, engaging instruction. This is critical in preparing our students for the workforce, college, and a successful life. Additionally, I am committed to ensuring that our campuses provide safe, inclusive, and supportive spaces by partnering closely with families and the broader community.

I am honored to have the endorsements of the Oxnard Federation of Teachers and School Employees (OFTSE) and the Central Labor Council. I hope I can count on your support as we work together to represent our shared goals and values.
